Numeracy

Number – extend our knowledge of number to work within 10. Counting and matching numbers to sets, finding sets of a particular amount, writing our numbers correctly. Adding two sets together to find a bigger total.  

Be able to sort according to shape, colour and texture. 
Start to investigate number to 5. 
Match and share objects. 
Practise correct written formation of numbers.  

Phonics – continue to revise and extend our knowledge of initial sounds

Handwriting – continue to consolidate correct letter formation
 
Literacy Units – these will be connected to our topic of Pets and Vets. We will learn to participate in discussions about texts during literacy time. Sequencing events will also be part of our learning. 

Data Handling – Continue to complete data handling tasks which ask us to sort given data in a particular way. 

Measures – Money – work with pennies to find amounts within 10p. To choose the items we could buy for a given amount. To count out the correct number of pennies as required

Begin to extend knowledge to numbers within 20. 
Use data handling knowledge to complete activities. 

Phonics – continue to explore middle vowel sounds. Begin to use our phonics knowledge to blend initial sounds. 

Handwriting –continue to consolidate correct letter formation 

Literacy Units – these will be connected to our topic of Pets and Vets. We will learn to participate in discussions about texts during literacy time. Sequencing events in written form will also be part of our learning. Capital letters and full stops as components of sentence writing. 
Writing labels for pictures of our pets and their homes.

Odd and Even numbers to 20 

Data Handling – Continue to complete data handling tasks which ask us to sort given data in a particular way. 

Measures – Money – work with coins to 10p, being able to count up totals, work out the coins needed for a particular amount, and understand how to give change. 

The following curriculum areas/topics are taught together. 

Activities are differentiated according to year group and within this, according to ability. 
P1 & P2 will not be completed the same activity! 

World Around Us – Pets and Vets

Our new World Around us topic is Pets and Vets. During the next number of weeks we will be thinking of different types of pets and what they need to be kept safe and well. We will investigate the role of the vet and the role we have as responsible pet-owners. We also have a few school based visits by representatives from Cats Protection and hopefully the Guide Dogs trust. Our role play corner will become a Vet’s surgery.

RE -The Story of Daniel

PDMU – Being responsible for… 

PE – Moving using different parts of our body. 

MUSIC – animal themed songs 

ICT – Use the interactive whiteboard to draw pictures related to our WAU topic. Also the use of the computers to produce simple sentences.

Shared Education 2019-2020 P1/2

The P1/2 class in Richmount PS met their friends from St John’s, Eglish PS for the first day of their Shared Education programme. All the children enjoyed a fun-filled day at Cheeky Monkeys Adventure Playground in Newry. Even Mrs Gamble, Mrs Greer and Mrs Black had super fun!

The story of My Friend Bear, had a tea party and enjoyed playing games from the past. We all had a wonderful time.
